10 Nov 2008, Dushanbe

It's been 11 days since my visa was expired. I've been an illegal migrant.

I walked around the city everyday. Dushanbe is a small capital, and is not materially rich. I wanted to buy some equipment for my bicycle, but couldn't find much for my need. Looking around bazaars or shops was still fun, though.
There has been a problem. I wanted to move to a cheaper hotel. But they checked the date of my visa and refused my staying. Rules seems to be followed strictly. Russian effect, perhaps? Anyway, I had to stay in the first hotel all the while. 18$ for a shared double room was a bit too much. But I had no other choice. The roommates I had were local businessmen. It was interesting to spend some time with them, in a way. (ex. All of them made bed neatly by themselves in the morning.) Language was a problem with most of them, though.
I spent lots of time in internet cafes. The speed of connection was slow but didn't cost much. 0.6~1.5$/hour. No complain. I came back late every night. Streets were illuminated with dim orange lights. Nostalgic.

A pair of policemen requested my passport on a street once, and found that the available date was over. Fortunately, they didn't question me much and let me go. I tried not to get close to policemen since then.

Well, my unstable situation is over anyway. I got my new visa today. It costed 50$+25somoni for one month, plus 25$+25somoni as a fine. Not cheap. But I'm relieved.
I've got visas of Iran and Uzbekistan meanwhile. I'll get a trasit visa of Turkmenistan on 12th. Then I can go on again.
It's getting cold. It rains so often. Actually, I don't really feel like cycling. But I've run only half of the way to Europe.
